Imposter syndrome is a condition in which individuals doubt their accomplishments and feel they are only successful because of luck. Further, the condition is more common among high-achievers and is characterized by impostor-like thoughts and behaviors.

People who suffer from imposter syndrome can often feel like impostors in their field, despite having considerable experience or success. It can open to anxiety, depression, and low self-esteem. Imposter syndrome can also prevent them from seeking help or seeking new opportunities.

Working remotely can come with a unique set of challenges, one of which is imposter syndrome. For many people, imposter syndrome is exacerbated by the isolation of working from home. Remote workers may be doubting their every move with no colleagues to turn to for support or feedback.  

People with an imposter mindset also often attribute their success to luck rather than their abilities and work ethic. This attitude could cause them to hold them back from asking for a raise or even gunning for a promotion. They might also feel like they have to push themselves beyond the limit to achieve their impossibly high standards. Further, since a remote workplace lessens opportunities to celebrate success, it intensifies impostor syndrome. Employees feel less credit or ownership for their work when they are rarely recognized.

Why do you feel like you’re not good enough? What evidence do you have to support this belief? Once you examine your imposter thoughts, you can start to see them for what they are: irrational and unfounded. With this knowledge, you can work on overcoming imposter syndrome and building your confidence.

Once you realize that you are a capable human being, imposter syndrome will no longer have a hold on you. Further, remind yourself that you have succeeded in the past and that you are capable of achieving great things. We also become more resilient in the face of setbacks, knowing that we have the ability to overcome them.

So, remind yourself that you worked hard for your accomplishments and have as much right to them as anyone else. Appreciate your achievements and credit yourself for all the things you have conquered.

So, every time you accomplish something, big or small, add it to your list. This will help you to see the progress you’ve made and give you a boost of confidence whenever you spiral. Additionally, share your accomplishments with others! Don’t be afraid to brag a little bit; they’ll be impressed and inspired by what you’ve accomplished.

Instead of succumbing to this cycle of disbelief and skepticism, focus on your strengths and what makes you the perfect candidate for the job. Remember that you are qualified and capable!
